Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Italy is concurrently accredited to Cyprus. The High Commissioner of Cyprus in New Delhi is concurrently accredited to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka's Honorary Consul in Cyprus is Mr. Pieris Theofylaktou Pieri. Cyprus has appointed Mrs. Colombage Premanie Perera as Honorary Consul in Sri Lanka.
Bilateral Trade between Sri Lanka and Cyprus
Sri Lanka's trade with Cyprus has shown a fluctuating trend during the recent past. Total trade between Sri Lanka and Cyprus, which stood at US$ 30.29 million in 2005, has declined by 90% in 2009 and stood at US$ 2.84 million. Sri Lanka has had an unfavorable trade balance with Cyprus over the years except in 2007 and 2009. In 2005, 2006 and 2008 deficit in trade balance stood at US $ 26.71Mn, US$ 10.9 million and US$ 16.62 million respectively. This has been mainly due to large imports of Urea and Super Phosphates from Cyprus.
EMPLOYMENT AND LABOUR
There are approximately over 100,000 foreign workers employed in Cyprus. The Sri Lankan migrant workforce, which is estimated to be around 20-25 thousand, is the second largest foreign workers community in Cyprus. They are mainly employed as domestic aides, while others are employed in hotels and restaurants, construction, agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
