Registration of Marriages

One of the parties to the marriage should be a Sri Lankan Citizen and should give Notice of Marriage to the Embassy - Notice of Marriage FORM B -100

The originals of the following documents are required for the registration of a marriage at this Embassy or to obtain “No Objection Letter” for both parties to register their marriage at any municipality in Italy as they wish. :

Requirements:

a. Valid passports of both parties

b. Unmarried Certificates: Both parties should obtain an unmarried Certificate separately issued by the Grama Niladari in the applicant's city/village, which should be countersigned by the Divisional Secretary and authenticated by the Consular Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of Sri Lanka, Colombo.

If the party/parties to marriage are divorced, the original divorce certificate should be forwarded.

The party/parties  should also separately obtain an unmarried Certificate saying that  he/she has not married after the divorce  issued by the Grama Niladari in the applicant's city/village, which should be countersigned by the Divisional Secretary and authenticated by the Consular Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of Sri Lanka, Colombo

If the other party is a foreign national, it is required to obtain an unmarried Certificate from the Government of his /her country attested by the Embassy of his/her country.

c. Original birth certificates of both parties

d. Permit of Stay(ie:- Italian SOGGIORNO) of both parties

e. Notice of Marriage, FORM B -100  

The marriage may be registered in the Embassy after a lapse of twelve (12) working days from the date of receipt of the Notice of Marriage and within three (03) months from such date. Two (02) witnesses with original passports should also be present particularly on the day when the marriage is registered.

Obtaining a fresh copy of birth, marriage or death registration  registered at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome.

1. Duly completed application form (see below)

2. Passport of applicant, supported by marriage, birth certificate to establish direct connection to the those listed on the Certificate. ie: if a fresh copy of a child's birth certificate is being requested, the parents certificate of marriage along with the Passports.

3. Relevant fee in euro. Fee: Euro 30/- subject to change without prior notice
